Hydrogen Fuel Cells - fantasy or reality

Have you taken the trouble with the rising gas prices? Well, many of the drivers are, and they certainly want to find an alternative fuel that is less costly. Car owners are trying very hard to reduce the cost of gas, but to no avail. Before the trade the car, the so-called hybrid car, why not try to build a hydrogen fuel cell generator. But before anything else, you need to know a few things.

If you believe that fuel cell generators are science fiction, you wrong. Well, who would immediately think that the car will take water? Today, nothing is impossible, and you have got our sophisticated technology to thank. Much has been made, as well as the development of new discoveries. Fuel cell generators are scientific reality of the situation. True, if you simply put the water your car’s tank, of course it’s doesn’t run but will make your car go boom.. But with the support of a fuel cell generator, the car can be submitted to the necessary power.

You can continue to use gasoline, even if you already have a fuel cell generator in your car. Water is composed of hydrogen and oxygen. The fuel cell generators are then needed to extract the energy of hydrogen that can be found in the water. The car is still run even if you run out of gas.

Before the fuel cell was, for you are using 100% of the gases. When the fuel cell generators have been installed in the car, you need only spend about 60% of petrol and the other 40% of the car will power by the extracted hydrogen. Try to imagine driving for longer hours without refueling at the gas station; calculate how much money you can save.

Currently, hydrogen powered cars are still manufactured and completed, so the cars today that the alternative to use hydrogen as a fuel is not completely run. Only one part of hydrogen power helps to drive your car engine. A certain process known as electrolysis takes place in the fuel cell generator. This process will then complement your car’s gas. This process takes place continuously inside the cells, and so there is sufficient hydrogen to power a car.

Maybe you attention is already caught. Now, it is excellent hydrogen fuel cell is that you can build it by yourself. You don’t the need to invest massive sums of money. You can also build a fuel cell over the weekend. A single fuel cell generator approximately costs $150. If you buy a kit of hydrogen cell generator, it contains step by step instructions to build a fuel cell.

The document does not difficult to understand, because they are written on, step by step. Even the DIY beginners can build a fuel cell generator. As the owner of the car, you already know how to maintain a car’s in good condition. Thus, to build a hydrogen system in your car will be that not so difficult.

Hydrogen fuel cells are not myths or scams. It has already proven fact, and a lot of car owners have already benefited from the hydrogen powered vehicles. Each of the project, have their limitation, and it is also true with fuel cells, but at least, you can cut down your petrol expenses.

Through the increasing prices of almost every commodity in the market, you will need all the help to save some money. Get a fuel cell kit now and build your very own hydrogen fuel cell generator.

Hydrogen Fuel - Convert Your Vehicle Today. Is it true?

We've all been noticing the gas prices rising with no end in sight. Everyday it gets a little more expensive to get where we're going and soon it will be near impossible to do something as simple as a road trip. Of course, alternative fuel has been promising to fix the problem for years now but we all know that it takes time to set up a large scale industry like that. Time we don't have. But what about Hydrogen Fuel?

At one time it seemed very dangerous to use Hydrogen as fuel. The idea itself was very good and promised inexpensive fuel, but storing Hydrogen canisters onboard the vehicle is a big explosion risk. What was the solution? HHO Gas. HHO Gas comes directly from water and is called "Oxyhydrogen". This gas is used in industry as fuel for high intensity torches (burning at 1800 degrees) and has no pollutant byproducts (just water).

H20 (Water) can be changed into HHO gas with simple electrolysis. All you need is a little electricity and H20 splits its hydrogen and oxygen components to create HHO gas. Simple, safe, and a solution to using Hydrogen in cars. This solution has proven to be not only simple to use, but simple to construct yourself.

With as little as $60-$100 in common auto parts you can have HHO Gas helping you with 50-60% of your mileage in no time. On as little as a quart of water you can get 100 miles out of your vehicle. Of course you're not going to jump into such an unknown venture without doing a little research, so check around for sites with the best package, a money back guarantee, and an easy to follow manual that will not only help you install the device, but help you preserve your warrantee.

Is Hydrogen Fuel Technology Real and Can I Use it to Save Money on Gas?

What is the validity of Hydrogen Fuel technology for cars?

Well an obvious one would be the BMW Hydrogen 7. A car that uses hydrogen fuel technology to burn water. Also just as amazing is the fact that this Hydrogen 7 car can also burn regular gas too.

Another valid test of this technology is an experiment that has been around for decades in High school and college science labs. That is called the Hoffman apparatus. Hoffman invented this back in the 1800's. Its basically a voltameter for electrolyzing water. It separates the hydrogen from water which then can be burned as a clean safe fuel.

Now you can say that this Hydrogen Fuel is old technology. Not very popular either because you can't make alot of money with it when water is plentiful and cheap. When you are looking for hydrogen water fuel kits you are looking for the basic Hydrogen Fuel technology.

A device that takes water and uses electrolysis to separate the hydrogen from water then either stores it in a tank for later use (Fuel Cell plus tank) or immediately sends it to the fuel line of a car or truck engine (hydrogen-on-demand) to be burned as fuel. As simple as

that!

So your next question might be - How can I use this technology in my car so I can save money on gas? Well you can buy fuel cells some of which are very expensive and need some expertise to use.

You can also design one yourself using this very old technology.

Of course who has the time to do that?

Thankfully there are some very easy to use, and inexpensive alternatives some of which can be found below at my link.

HHO Gas Scam

Turning water into gas is a scam. Water itself is not a fuel. You cannot magically pour water into your gas tank and expect it to fuel you car. However, it's important to realize that hydrogen derived from water can run your car on water. This hydrogen extract from water is called browns gas.

Japanese car manufacturers are currently developing a hydrogen powered car. This car runs solely on the power derived from hydrogen. Unfortunately this hydrogen car isn't feasible to manufacturer for mass production at the moment.

Breaking water down into its simple elements of hydrogen and oxygen to form an HHO gas however can be used as a fuel. It's been shown on the news that one particular guy was using this as an application to power a torch. He soon realized that this same fuel could be used in other application. He went to work and modified his car to generate HHO to supplement gasoline. This greatly increased his fuel efficiency and was able to get much better gas mileage.

This invention had actually been around for decades however it wasn't readily used as a method to power vehicles.

In order to modify any vehicle to make use of use of an HHO fuel supplement you'll need to make a hydrogen generator and place it inside your engine compartment. You won't have to modify any part of your cars engine or anything like that. The device is relatively easy to install with a good manual assisting you and can easily be uninstalled.

This article provides valuable information on steps you need to take before spending your hard earned Would you like to buy hydrogen fuel car kit?

With fuel prices increasing lets find some ways to cut your fuel costs. Gas prices, and other types of fuels are taking a turn for the worst as they have reached an all time high that will keep climbing until someone seriously thinks about fuel bill reductions. By converting your vehicle to run on hydrogen, you will enjoy substantial benefits. The lifespan of your car's engine will be noticeably lengthened, and your car's mileage will be dramatically improved. A decrease in environmentally damaging emissions is a real bonus when you install this system. This is a bold statement but in the future there are going to be alternate ways for running cars. We have already seen a rise in a number of people finding out how to convert car to run on hydrogen.

As you will already know, water is made from a combination of hydrogen and oxygen. Using this technology, many people today are now able to convert their cars to run on hydrogen. The process of separation produces hydrogen, which is used to create the energy that will power the car. This conversion doesn't mean that a vehicle can run on the water itself, because it is the gases in the water that make the whole thing possible. Once you buy hydrogen fuel car kit you will be able to run your car on hydrogen.

How a Hydrogen Fuel Cell Car science kit works!

What better way to get kids and teens interested in alternative energy and physics than with a Hydrogen Fuel Cell Car science kit? Not only will your future scientist have fun building learning how we can derive energy from hydrogen, but they get a hands-on working hydrogen car building project. Will they end up becoming one of the future scientists who help to make hydrogen a viable energy source? Using a device called a PEM hydrogen fuel cell, such as the ones sold by Science Store for the Stars, the chemical energy of hydrogen can be converted into electrical energy we can use.

PEM means Proton Exchange Membrane and is similar to a battery, which also converts chemical energy into electrical energy. However, a battery has a fixed amount of chemicals inside it and a hydrogen fuel cell can continuously have hydrogen and oxygen added to it meaning no recharging or throwing it away! The PEM dates back to 1839 when English physicist William Robert Grove first demonstrated his “gas voltaic battery.” His experiments paved the way for the PEM fuel cell first developed in the 1960s by General Electric which provided electric power and drinking water onboard the Gemini spacecraft. Hydrogen fuel is a wide open field of science as many alternatives to the current gasoline model of vehicles are being studied and experimented with.

We consume conventional petroleum based fuels 100,000 times faster than they are being made available, raising many questions about how long our conventional energy supplies will last. China, and possibly India, will soon surpass the United States in energy needs meaning viable energy alternatives will become even more important. Could hydrogen power be the future? But before you get too excited, there are still many hurdles to leap before hydrogen cars become main-stream.

Many of the top scientists and engineers all around the world are in a race to overcome a number of commercialization and technical issues with hydrogen fuel cells and most automakers including Toyota, Ford, Honda, and GM are all researching the potential of this incredible source of energy. The fuel cell in a Hydrogen Fuel Cell Car kit is the same process used by passenger hydrogen cars that will be available for us to purchase in the near future. With a hydrogen/electric hybrid car, such as the Toyota Highlander SUV, you’d head for the nearest hydrogen filling station and fill the tank with hydrogen gas (H2) at about 10,000 pounds per square inch. As you drive around, the electric batteries are charged by the hydrogen/oxygen chemical process and regenerative breaking (current gas/electric hybrids also employ this) to charge the batteries. The car itself actually runs on an electric engine. As a matter of fact, there are currently hydrogen busses on the road in some major cities.

So how does a hydrogen fuel cell work? The Fuel Cell Car kits contain a reversible PEM fuel cell which means Proton Exchange Membrane. Being reversible, the fuel cell can operate both as an electrolyser, producing Hydrogen (H2) and Oxygen (O2) from water (H2O), and also as a fuel cell (reverse electrolyser) to convert the chemical energy of Hydrogen to electricity with the by-product being water vapor and heat.

Let’s first look at the process of turning the hydrogen (chemical energy) into electricity to power our car. This is the reverse electrolysis or fuel cell. The PEM fuel cell consists primarily of four components, the anode (negative electrode), the cathode (positive electrode), a catalyst and an electrolyte. Hydrogen gas pumped into the anode strikes the catalyst (a thin layer of platinum) and splits into hydrogen protons and electrons. On the opposite side of the fuel cell, oxygen enters the cathode. Sandwiched between the anode and cathode is a thin electrolyte membrane that looks like plastic wrap you’d find in your kitchen. It permits the positively charged protons to pass through from the anode to the cathode but blocks the negatively charged electrons which are forced to flow through an external circuit to form an electric current.

When the electric current returns from doing work, such as powering an electric motor, it reacts with oxygen and the hydrogen ions at the cathode to form water and heat. That means no smog-forming emissions or greenhouse gasses! Now let’s look at the electrolyser - the process of breaking water (H2O) into hydrogen (H2) and oxygen (O2). When a chemical charge is applied to water, the charge breaks the chemical bond between hydrogen and oxygen and creates charged particles called ions. In this case, positively charged hydrogen ions and negatively charged ions are formed.

An electrolyte, also called an electrolytic conductor, is a conducting medium in which the flow of current is accompanied by the movement of matter in the form of ions. An electrolyser has 2 electrodes where the ions form. One electrode, called the anode, is positively charged, and attracts the negatively charged oxygen ions. The other electrode is called the cathode and attracts the positively charged hydrogen ions. But to break the bonds of water requires energy.

What makes Hydrogen fuel so attractive? As mentioned before, the only by-product is water, so there is no carbon or other emissions to harm the environment. It is non-toxic, clean to use, and holds much more energy per unit of weight than any other element we know. It is also the least complex and most abundant element of our visible universe so we know we won’t run out any time soon! And Hydrogen may one day power not only our homes, but even small electronic devices. The limits are only in our minds.

What are the downsides? The major downside to hydrogen powered vehicles is the energy needed to create the hydrogen. Although a car than runs purely on hydrogen is not emitting any pollution, the hydrogen you just bought to fill your tank had to be created using electricity in some form. If a coal, oil, or gas plant created the energy, then carbon monoxide was created to make the hydrogen. All of a sudden your “green” car isn’t so clean, is it? If you’re using a hydrogen/gasoline hybrid, you’d use less gas, but you’d still be using gas. Also, PEM fuel cells don’t create much energy. To get enough energy to power a car, for example, engineers must stack hundreds of fuel cells together in a series. This means a more complicated system with more ways for something to break down.

And how much are you willing to pay for a hydrogen car? Because the technology is so new and hydrogen cars are not being mass produced, the price alone will be too much for the average American to afford, at least in the near future. Availability of filling stations is another issue. It will be very costly to install hydrogen filling stations to the same degree as we currently have gasoline stations. Currently, the easiest places to find a hydrogen filling station is in Orange County, California, Westchester County, New York, or Washington, D.C. Travel more than a hundred or so miles outside these areas and you may get stranded. These are just some of the issues that are waiting to be solved by a future scientist.

What advancements are to there to be made? Plenty! Auto companies are looking into creating hydrogen without using carbon emitting sources like coal plants. Solar power is one consideration being investigated. However, solar panels are currently not very efficient (another great scientific field of study) but would be a clean renewable source of energy to produce the hydrogen if it can be done cheaply and efficiently. There is much advancement to be made in the fuel cell design itself. Honda solved one problem simply by re-orientating the position of the fuel cell. Traditionally, fuel cells were placed lying flat under the floor of the car which meant the water created as a by-product needed to be aggressively pumped out of the fuel cell using more energy. Honda’s FCX hydrogen car has a vertically oriented fuel cell, allowing gravity to do much of the work and saving energy. Wasn’t that a great idea? The size and efficiency of the hydrogen engines is another area where future improvements will be important as well as better ways to cool the engine. As you can see there are a many opportunities in the science field of hydrogen fuel cell development, and it’s a very interesting subject.

Although some of this may sound complicated, it becomes much easier to understand when you’re building, hands-on, the actual Fuel Cell Car model. Hydrogen Fuel Cell Car kits are popular for kids starting at about age 10 and up and are great science fair projects. Even many adults find them fascinating and they’re a fantastic way to participate in a project with your child. And whether they become the next great scientist or not, it’s just a fun way to learn science!

Hydrogen Car - Honda make a move

The name is FCX Clarity. Honda announced the first limited production of a hydrogen car with 200 of this model will be released in Japan and the US but only after 3 years. FCX Clarity model is powered by a hydrogen fuel cell and probably boasts zero greenhouse gas and other pollutants except only emissions of water vapor.

Hydrogen fuel cars are the suitable solution to plug-in electric cars and conventional car set to be arrive in numbers start from 2010. Honda will only suggest the Clarity under lease, at a cost of $600 per month to American motorists.

The company says the car has a range of 270 miles (430 kilometers) per tank, 30 per cent higher than the last model, and can reach a speed of 100 miles per hour (160kmh). Hydrogen consumption is equivalent to 74 miles per gallon, three times greater than that of gasoline.

The Clarity is not Honda’s first hydrogen car but its cost of production has come down substantially from previous attempts after recent advances in fuel cell design. Honda President Takeo Fukui said the car still costs hundreds of thousands of dollars to make but it could be made for under $100,000 well within ten years – at which point mass market production will be viable.

The Clarity is only being offered to US residents around Los Angeles where three existing hydrogen fuel stations are located. The lack of retail distribution network for hydrogen fuel is a major factor holding back the advance of the car to mass market production.

This is one downside among many positives Reuters correspondent Nicola Groom reports from her driving experience in a General Motors’ hydrogen prototype, the Chevy Equinox.
